Executive Limitations, EL-14, entitled Safe, Healthy, Respectful and Secure Environment states: “The Director of Education shall not fail to take all reasonable measures to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and secure environment for students, staff members and volunteers while engaged in school activities.”
The Near North District School Board is dedicated to the goal of providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment through the development and implementation of programs designed to eliminate or reduce occupational illnesses and injuries.
Workplace health and safety is a joint responsibility of the Board and all its employees to act in compliance with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all relevant legislation.
The Board, in conjunction with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee will provide information, develop procedures and provide training to employees. The Board will also ensure that ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the efforts is provided to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Senior management shall actively model and promote efforts that lead to a safe and healthy environment. Supervisory officers, principals, managers and all supervisory personnel are accountable for implementing applicable Board safety programs, for complying with legislation in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and for ensuring that workplaces under their direct control are kept in a healthy and safe condition.
Employees shall actively participate in meeting the Board’s commitment through cooperation and shared responsibility as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and through safety programs of the Board. Employees have a common responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others and are required to adhere to safe work practices and to report to their supervisor any unsafe or unhealthy condition or practice.
In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Section 25(2), this document shall be reviewed at least annually.
