PSW Programs run twice yearly, pending enrollment, programs start in:
• September start - intake in May to August - documents submitted August 1st
• February start - intake in November to January - documents submitted January 1st

Step 1:
Attend the virtual information sessions – schedule to be posted in November 2023
Check back here for virtual recordings
Submit a Registration Form
Step 2:
Gather evidence from our checklist, including the medical form
Step 3:
Complete a literacy assessment - We will contact you in December to set this up
Bring evidence from the checklist to the literacy assessment
Check back here for scheduled sessions from December 2023 until January 2024
Step 4:
Intake interview
The interview typically follows the literacy assessment. We ask that you present ALL documents from the checklist at this interview.
However, we recommend waiting to apply for your vulnerable sector check until 6 weeks before the program start. You CANNOT start the program without a receipt for your record check.
Step 5:
Use a letter from us that allows you to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check - apply for this at least 6 weeks before program start date.
BEFORE YOU START! Please see this Checklist to Start that is mandatory for all PSW students. Completing the checklist takes some time, and we want students to be aware of the requirements well in advance.

Supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the student costs for this specialty program will be subsidized. Successful students of this program will become fully qualified as a PSW.

TRAIN TO BE A PSW IN THE LIVING CLASSROOM
NNDSB has partnered with Cassellholme in North Bay, Belvedere Heights in Parry Sound, West Nipissing General Hospital in Sturgeon Falls and Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa to provide Personal Support Worker (PSW) training in a living classroom. Participants will do their theoretical learning in a classroom then apply those skills on the floor of the long-term care home. Learn more in the video below.
This opportunity is available to people aged 18 and older. Participants who do not have a Grade 12 diploma can earn up to six Ontario Secondary School Diploma credits while training to become a PSW.
