Summer School Learning Opportunities flyer

The NNDSB is pleased to offer students across our district and beyond several opportunities for summer learning. Our registrations for high school credit courses will occur through the provincial PRISM system.
All courses in this document are subject to sufficient staffing and enrolment to run.

  • NNDSB students, please see your Guidance Counsellor in Student Services to
  • Non-NNDSB students, please see your Guidance Counsellor to We are using the PRISM system for all registrations.
  • International Students, course fees are $700 per 110 full credit course and $350 for 55 hr. half credit course. Please contact our summer school secretary Terri Reidt 705.472.5419 x. 5991.
  • Attendance is MANDATORY for all courses. Lack of attendance will result in removal from
  • Online students will receive a welcome email from their teacher to their registered email
  • Online students will need access to a device and reliable internet to connect to course
  • Students are expected to connect with their teacher each day of the course.Reach out to your guidance counsellor for more information on registration.

Additional Virtual Summer Learning Opportunities

Grade 8 Secondary School Reach Ahead Credit

The Near North District School Board is offering a reach ahead opportunity to current NNDSB grade 8 students to receive a high school credit prior to beginning high school. This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become more successful, more independent learners. Students will learn to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal managements skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. A GLS1OS or GLE1OS credit will be granted upon successful completion of the credit.

Additional In-Person Summer Learning Opportunities

Basketball Focused Phys-ed Credit

NNDSB will offer an individual sport, skills-based credit open to grades 8-12 students across the North Bay area. Athletes will train daily at West Ferris Secondary School from 9:00am-12:00pm from June 29 - July 24th, gaining practical skills and game play experience throughout this intensive program. There will also be an online asynchronous portion of the course focusing on healthy and active living. This focused course on basketball will no doubt improve each athlete’s basketball skills. PAL1O, 2O, 3O, or 4O credit will be granted upon successful completion of the course.

Volleyball Focused Phys-ed Credit

With the success of last year, we will again be hosting an individual sport, skills-based credit open to grades 8-12 students across the North Bay area. Athletes will train daily at West Ferris Secondary School from 12:30pm-3:30pm from June 29th-July 24th, gaining practical skills, game play experience and sport leadership opportunities throughout this intensive program. There will also be an online asynchronous portion of the course focusing on healthy and active living. This focused course on volleyball will no doubt improve each athlete’s volleyball skills. A PAL1O, 2O, 3O, or 4O credit will be granted upon successful completion of the course.

TOROS - Theatre Outreach on Stage

TOROS is gearing up for the Summer. All parts of the production and shows will be housed at West Ferris Secondary. Students currently in grade 8-12 will be able to participate in this program of the musical production of “Pippin” and earn a high school credit while doing it. Information night is May 14th, 6:30pm at West Ferris Secondary School. Auditions & callbacks are May 20-23. Rehearsals starting late May and running through June (Sun, Tues, Thurs). The Summer part of the course will run

June 29th – Aug 9th (Mon-Thurs 6pm-10pm, Fri 9am-1pm) with increased hours closer to the shows. Dress rehearsals and shows are Aug 1-8. Many opportunities available (performers, stage crew, sound and lighting, costume/set/prop crew).

Cooperative Education

Students working to complete the experiential learning requirements for their SHSM certificate and those students
requiring co-op credit(s) to graduate will be given priority. Approved placements will be in-person. Please register with
your guidance counsellor. One & two credits available for the GWL3O co-op course. For out-of-board students

Dual Credits
Summer School Inclusive Leadership Dual Credit Program
Are you entering Grade 11 or 12 and looking to earn a high school and college credit this summer? Join our Inclusive Leadership Dual Credit Program — a unique opportunity to earn both a high school and a college credit in just one week!
This program is designed to help students accelerate their learning, build leadership skills, and gain valuable college experience.

July 13 – July 17, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic School Board at College Drive Canadore Campus.
Transportation to and from campus is provided.
Earn 1 High School Credit + 1 College Credit
