The curriculum will not change. Staff have planned to locate intermediate students strategically in the school to address concerns. Students will be located in rooms 400, 401, and 406 on the second floor in a single hallway with lockers and a dedicated intermediate-only washroom. The hallway has a stairwell at each end, one stairwell leads directly to the cafeteria for nutrition breaks and the gym and schoolyard for recess and Phys ed class.
Students will also have access to secondary school shop classes, food prep room and the larger gymnasium.
No, intermediate students are on a balanced day schedule, and their nutrition breaks do not overlap with secondary students’ lunch break.
Student achievement and student well-being are the top priorities during this transition. The board and ministry are following the planning and procedures used by other boards that have enacted similar seamless transitions.
As per the K-12 model that has been adopted at numerous schools across the province, the elementary section of the building will be cordoned off from secondary school areas. Staggered schedules will ensure younger and older students don’t mingle without staff supervision.
Northern Secondary School currently has a capacity for 630 students. The combined enrollment of all K-12 students is approximately 500 students.

Current busing schedules and pickup locations will remain unchanged.

There will be three classes: one extended French, one grade 7-8 split and one grade 8 class. Classes will have approximately 24 24 students on average.
Yes, sports team twinning will continue to ensure that students from both boards can participate in sports.
There will still be another 2 years of grade 8 graduations at Northern, and next year’s grade 6s will have their grade 6 graduation.
Currently enrolled grades 7 and 8 White Woods students will be automatically registered at Northern Secondary School.
