When do the students have to clean out their lockers at the current school?

Students will be given opportunities for locker cleanouts over the next couple weeks, with the final locker cleanout on June 4.

Do the students have to help move items over to the new building?

No. Students will only be responsible for their personal items, which must be removed from school property by end of day, June 4.

How will the move affect technology that the school requires to teach and learn daily?

Our IT Department is already working to ensure a smooth transition between buildings. This means that the network is ready to go and all necessary infrastructure is in place. Over the course of the moving weekend, laptop and tablet carts will be moved over, and our computer labs plugged in.

Will Grade 9-12 learning be disrupted in June due to the move?

The final three weeks for Grades 9-12 in the new building will move forward as normal, consisting of exam review, practical exams and final exams.

How will all the contents be moved to the new school over one weekend?

There are a few circumstances that are alleviating the pressures of a full-scale move; newly purchased items are already installed at the new build which includes some new furniture and appliances, books and equipment only used certain times of year are already moved. Office storage items are being moved earlier in May, and seasonal items are also being moved ahead of time. The only items being moved during the transition time of June 5 will be last-minute items that the classrooms still require to finish the year.

Will there be cafeteria service in June for the high school students?

Food services for PSHS students will continue in the same manner as this year with food offered to students three times per week in the cafeteria.

Are parents allowed to visit the school prior to the opening?

No. An open house is being planned for September to introduce families to the school.

Can parents see the school on the first day?

No. The school will be operating as a usual school day. An open house will be held in September for families to see the school.

Where will the buses drop the students off at the new school?

All buses will continue to unload and load students in the same bus loop formation; the main doors for the new building are directly across from the old building bus entrance.

Are the start and end times remaining the same?

Start and end times will remain the same for June, and in the event any changes need to be made for September, communication will be provided to families.

How will the secondary school students know where to go on the first day (June 8)?

All students will be provided a map/floor plan for the new build which teachers will review with students to plan for the first day in the new building. On the first day, students will be welcomed into the building by all available staff and directed to their first period class. Their classroom teachers will be in the hallways outside their classroom doors to ensure students clearly see their classroom. Room numbers will be clearly visible outside each classroom, and designated staff will be circulating to help students navigate to their first period.

Is there a dedicated office for secondary school and will it be open?

Yes, there is a main office on the secondary side of the school closest to Isabella St., which will be open June 8.

Is the main telephone number the same?

Yes, the main telephone number remains  705-773-7979

Will there be a safety drill?

All safety procedures will be reviewed with staff and students, and a planned fire drill with advance notice will occur to give all staff and students a walk-through in June. All appropriate safety drills will be planned for the 2026-2027 school year and reviewed in the Family Handbook distributed in September.

Is it safe to be in school during the demolition of the old school?

The demolition isn’t scheduled to be underway in the old school until approximately June 26, so there shouldn’t be anyone in the new school at that time, including staff.

Will the bus process be affected during demolition?

No, a safety fence will be placed around the old school, but demolition is scheduled to start approx. June 26.

How will parking be affected during demolition?

Parking will be affected slightly, in that it will move closer to the new school, away from the old school.

Will the school be fully functional by September?

Yes, both elementary and secondary schools will be open and ready for students.

How are the elementary and secondary sections of the school separated?

The elementary and secondary schools are separated through clearly marked fire doors on the upper and the lower floors of the right-hand side of the building. There is a separate main entrance and main office for secondary, and a separate main entrance and main office for elementary.

Will there be separate announcements or combined between the 2 schools?

There will be separate announcements for the elementary and secondary schools.

Is the washroom by the gym divided into junior and senior washrooms?

K-6 is a separate school with their own washrooms, 7/8’s will access washrooms by either end of the secondary building, and when using the gym will have access to the change room washrooms.

How will one gym accommodate so many different classes?

Scheduling will accommodate shared use of the gymnasium, fitness room and field.

How will students in the hex pods use the washrooms?

Washrooms are located just inside the secondary school at each end, and students will sign out of their classroom, as is the expectation for all students in every class, walking a short distance outside to the exterior school doors.

Do students have a place for their coats and boots in the hex pods?

Coat hooks, boot areas and storage shelving will be located in the hex pods.

How will lockdowns be called for the entire building?

There will be a set of safety protocols to ensure the entire building responds appropriately to a safety concern.

How do school lunch time sports work when considering the schedules of seniors and juniors?

Scheduling for 7/8 and 9-12's will be worked on with this in mind, which includes separate lunch time scheduling.

If the brickwork on the school is not completed by June 8, will students still be able to get occupancy permits to move into the new school?

Yes, students will still be able to obtain occupancy permits. It is hoped that the brickwork will be completed by that time.

If students move into the building before the brickwork is finished, will construction continue while students are inside? How will this avoid disrupting students?

Yes, brickwork will continue after occupancy if needed. However, the work is expected to proceed in a way that does not disrupt students.

Where should students park for the remainder of the school year once they are in the new building?

Students will continue parking in the same area they are currently using.
