English as a Second Language (full-time, in-class environment, adults 18+, non-credit bearing)
The Near North District School Board’s Adult ESL (English as a Second Language) Program is FREE to eligible immigrants/newcomers. Adult students may register and begin day classes at any time during the school year (September – June) and it is delivered by a qualified TESL/ESL certified teacher.
A fee for service may be available to those who do not qualify.
Public transportation is available for those who qualify.
This is a very energetic, flexible program with curriculum designed to meet the needs of each student whether at the beginner or advanced level (CLB literacy-8). Learners are formally evaluated using the CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark), a nationally recognized assessment process, and receive provincial ESL certificates upon completion of benchmark advancement.
A language lab with student laptop computers and software designed specifically for ESL learners at a variety of levels is also used in the program.
The personal and experiential approach to education, combined with a balance of academics, social skills, practical workplace training and networking, Canadian culture and language development, and community events and activities, will prepare the learner for future academic studies, employment and living in Canada.
We would be happy to arrange a visit to our ESL classroom and answer any questions about the Adult ESL Program. Come and find out what all the fun is about!
We look forward to welcoming Newcomers to our ESL Family and the Nipissing District Community.
