Principal Report.  Our new principal for the year is Laurie Payne and Velma Ferguson will be our Vice Principal.  Laurie will be at our school on Tuesdays.  Velma will be at our school Mondays, 1/2 day Tuesday and Thursdays.  The Grade 8 camping trip went very well with excellent weather reported.   Our Welcome Back BBQ to meet the teachers and staff is Sept 26 from 5-7 pm.

Student Council –election dates-none have been set as of yet

Budget Updates –Hot Lunch fund $742.14, Breakfast Club $4002.80.  Discussion revolved around providing free hot dogs during the month of January to offset some after Christmas expenses for families.  Rebecca is to approach Croft Jams to see if we can get our yearly donation from them for Breakfast Club.

Upcoming School Activities

  • Terry Fox run Sept 21
  • Christmas Concert –need to coordinate with other schools on this still
  • Sept 28 –Orange shirt day
  • Oct 4 Picture Day
  • Oct 1 PD Day

Fundraisers

  • Ontario Based Fruit and Vegetable Sale on now. We get 40% of the sales from this fundraiser
  • Bottle Shed –need more volunteers. Organizers are looking to do a draw to reward people for volunteering ie each time you volunteer you get your name entered for a gift card or something
  • Vessey Seeds fundraiser –will look to do in the spring. We get 50% of sales from this as well.
  • Bake Sale –we will have one on the evening of the Christmas Concert. We will determine what to put the funds towards when the time gets closer.

Outdoor Classroom and Play Area –Rebecca presented photos and ideas to develop our outdoor area so that it can be more widely utilized at recess and during class time.  Ideas centered on a music wall, chalk board, picnic tables with games, mud kitchen, dinosaur/fairy gardens, log seating.  A roof or shelter of some type would be helpful for hot and cold weather.  Lori is to seek student input on the project but everyone was in agreement it would be nice to develop some useable outdoor space.  Another component consisted of stickers on the floor to create a body break area in the hall way.

Only You Project –involves a story told to the school and children painting their own rock which would be used to decorate the outdoor area.  Fred could get us rocks.

Clothing Order –Parents are asked to turn in WLCS clothing their children have outgrown so it can be passed down to other children.  A clothing order will be going out shortly.

New mega school –no word on when the new high school will be ready for occupancy

Field Trips –none planned at this time

Other Events –Police Checks are available this week on Tues and Thurs from 4 -9 if you want to get an  accelerated police check.  All volunteers at school need one.
