Culturally Responsive Practice
Towards Equity and Inclusivity in Our Schools
Culturally Responsive Pedagogy is a student-centered approach to teaching in which the students’ unique cultural strengths are identified and nurtured to promote both student achievement, and a sense of well-being about the student’s cultural place in the world. This approach recognizes the importance of including students' cultural references in all aspects of learning (Ladson-Billings,1994).
The Near North District School Board recognizes the need for growth and understanding to remove cultural biases embedded in practice. In partnering with our First Nations communities, providing professional development, and through focussed collaborative inquiries, we are providing opportunities for growth and the removal of cultural bias that may exist in our schools.
