The Raider baseball team opened their season with a thrilling 5-4 defeat of the Scollard Bears. Led by a 1st inning 2 RBI double by Alex Martin, Andrew Allard cruised through 4 innings of work, allowing only 2 runs on good defense and 3 strikeouts.
In the 4th, the bears pulled ahead on a couple of hits and 1 error before Griffin Paul got a ground ball to end the inning.
With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the 6th, the Bears again pressured the Raiders by putting the go ahead run on 3rd base with nobody out and eventually loading the bases. Paul struck out 2 and got the ground out to get the Raiders out of the jam.
In the bottom of 6th, the Raiders again stepped up when it counted. Connor Winrow got things started with a 1 out double and then stole 3rd base. With 2 out in the bottom of the 6th, and the Raiders' last chance to ice the game, Parker Hamelin came up with a clutch single driving in the game winning RBI. The walk-off hit gave the Raiders a great win in game 1 over a solid Bears team.
