First Nations Representative
Boozhoo. Over the past 10 years I have worked with the First Nations communities in ever increasing roles and responsibilities. In my present position as Education Counselor with Magnetawan First Nation, of which I am a band member, I assist students in developing education plans unique to their personal situations and cultural beliefs. In addition, within this role I coordinate and facilitate workshops designed to enable the youth in our community to meet their full academic potential. I am a member of several Committees and Boards such as: First Nations Advisory Committee, the First Nations Education Counselors Committee, the Education Working Group and the Restorative Justice Committee. Also, I hold a Bachelor of Education Degree in Adult Education, An Aboriginal’s Teacher’s Certificate, a Native Early Childhood Education Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts. Consequently, I live and work immersed in the challenges facing First Nation’s people and education. I am committed to identifying these obstacles and being pro-active in facing these challenges head on with realistic and well planned solutions. I wish to be part of the solution to assist with moving forward on First Nation issues. Foremost, I am mother of two adult children and grandmother to six grandchildren whom I love and cherish.
